Even more reason to join us for heat pump training

When I left school and went to college to become a gas engineer, I thought that might be the end of my time in a classroom, although I do believe that you can never stop learning and that ‘every day is a school day’.

I never suspected that when I got to my (cough, cough!) late 30’s, I’d be back in the classroom, but I’ve had to learn quite a lot over the past few months about LCL and unvented hot water, to enable me to train other heating engineers.

Installers who meet the eligibility can benefit from a £500 grant to cover most of the training cost

LCL Level 3

Our Hatfield Training Centre has been approved as an “LCL Accredited Training Centre” for air source heat pumps.

If you’ve never heard of the LCL Awards, it is one of the Building Services Engineering sectors foremost awarding organisation and certification bodies, offering qualifications and training courses via a network of approximately 160 approved centres located nationwide.

They are well known for issuing qualifications covering, gas heating, oil heating, energy efficiency, plumbing and electro-technical. And they are increasingly known for advancing industry-qualifications for refrigeration and renewable technologies.

The reason we have sought to become LCL Accredited and offer courses is to enable engineers to gain the necessary qualifications to become MCS registered, so they can offer the BUS grant to their customers.

Some of our courses are Level 3, so we can help train engineers who need LCL certification before being able to work on renewable installations, such as heat pumps, solar thermal systems, or unvented hot water cylinders.

The Accreditation ensures that our training programmes meet the rigorous standards set by the industry and equip participants in our courses with the essential skills and knowledge to advance in the growing renewable energy market.

£500 grant available

Installers who register for the LCL Level 3 training at the Hatfield Training Centre, and who meet the grant eligibility criteria*, can benefit from a £500 grant to cover most of the training cost.

Eligibility criteria

  • Fewer than 250 employees
  • Need to meet the pre-requisites
  • Not in receipt of any other government funding from DESNZ
  • In past three years have not received more than £315,000 in government subsidies

When they have completed the three-day course, installers will receive an LCL Awards Level 3 Certificate, which is recognised by the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS).

In addition to this, we are offering a two-day training course in low temperature and hot water at our Hatfield centre.

Comprehensive training

Our Training Centres in Hatfield, Manchester and Livingston offer comprehensive courses designed to support the growing demand for sustainable heating solutions.

As the government and private sector increasingly invest in renewable energy, the need for skilled installers in air source heat pump technology continues to rise. Our training programmes provide a thorough understanding of heat pump systems, including design, installation, and maintenance, ensuring participants are fully prepared to meet industry demands.

We are thrilled to receive the LCL Accreditation, as this recognition reinforces our commitment to sustainability and highlights the importance of equipping installers with the skills they need to drive the transition to renewable energy sources heating.

There are huge opportunities for trained heat pump installers as the nation moves away from gas boilers, and these opportunities are only going to grow over the next decade.

So, what are you waiting for? Come on in, the water’s lovely!
