Expanded Range, Extended Benefits

Redefining energy efficiency, sustainability and performance

Introducing the New City Multi R32 YXM VRF - Available to Specify Now

Mitsubishi Electric is updating its City Multi R32 VRF range, now offering system capacities from 12 to 113kW in both Heat Pump and Heat Recovery models. Available to install from Spring 2026, the redesigned YXM series features a compact modular chassis, flexible piping, low noise, and safety compliance with BS EN 378. The new City Multi R32 VRF YXM range now also includes a patented Vertical Flat Tube (VFT) heat exchanger, providing high efficiency, cost savings and reduced whole life carbon emissions.

Take a closer look

The system is simple to design, with only basic height and length limitations between the outdoor and indoor units, helping to streamline and shorten the design process. Our compact units, combined with an advanced control and communication network, further enhance the systems efficiency – enabling smart features that lower operational costs and reduce carbon emissions.  The new range also has a 2-pipe design throughout the layout, which reduces the number of brazing points and saves riser space which are generally packed with other mechanical equipment.

Features of the new City Multi R32 VRF YXM range

Indoor Unit

The Indoor Unit combines a compact design with high performance, offering accurate temperature control and whisper-quiet operation. It works seamlessly within the system to enable flexible zoning and deliver energy-efficient comfort customised for each room. Equipped with advanced features and intelligent controls, it ensures excellent indoor air quality and enhances user convenience. City Multi R32 YXM VRF also has a wide range of connectable indoor units including Ceiling Cassette, Ceiling Concealed Ducted, Wall Mounted and Ceiling Suspended.

Local Controller

A key component that manages and regulates the operation of the system at a local level. It enables precise control of indoor units, facilitates communication between system components, and supports energy-efficient operation through advanced monitoring and smart scheduling. The local controller helps optimise comfort, reduce energy consumption, and simplifies system management for installers and building operators.

Leak Detectors

Designed to comply with BS EN 378 part 3 with regards the installation of safety measures, the new City Multi R32 VRF YXM range features a low-level detector called the 'Sensor and Alarm Kit' with its own power supply. If a leak is detected, an audible and visual alarm is heard, alongside the respective shut-off valve closing. The affected indoor unit will stop operating, while the remaining indoor units continue to operate. Our detectors also have a market-leading 30-year lifespan, thus reducing long-term maintenance costs.

Outdoor Unit

The Outdoor Unit is the core of our next-generation VRF system, engineered for high efficiency, compactness, and low environmental impact. Featuring a patented 2-pipe design and using low-GWP R32 refrigerant, it delivers powerful, scalable performance with reduced refrigerant volume and simplified installation. Its advanced components, including next-generation compressors and heat exchangers, ensure reliable operation, lower energy consumption, and optimal comfort across diverse building types. Still a plug and play system, the system capacities now range from 12 to 113kW in both Heat Pump and Heat Recovery models. Additionally, there is now a more compact, 6 % smaller footprint than market average, for easier installation.

Branch Controller

The Branch Controller is a key system component that manages the distribution of refrigerant between the outdoor unit and multiple indoor units. Designed specifically for the new City Multi R32 VRF YXM range it has a 252 mm height for tight ceiling spaces. With a built-in shut off valve and up to 12 ports, it enables simultaneous heating and cooling through Mitsubishi Electric’s patented 2-pipe technology. With intelligent flow control and seamless integration, it ensures efficient zoning, optimised comfort, and simplified system installation.

Centralised Controller

The Centralised Controller provides streamlined, building-wide management of the entire VRF system. It allows users to monitor and control multiple indoor units from a single interface, enabling advanced scheduling, energy optimisation, and system diagnostics. Designed to work seamlessly with the new range, the controller supports integration with BMS platforms and offers intuitive navigation for enhanced operational efficiency and user convenience.

A Broad Range for Every Application

With flexible configurations, advanced control options, and a wide variety of indoor unit styles, the new City Multi R32 VRF YXM range delivers tailored comfort, energy efficiency, and system scalability to meet the demands of any project.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is VRF?

Variable refrigerant flow (VRF) air conditioning divides a building into zones which can be customised for comfort and energy efficiency. VRF systems provide heating and cooling by recycling refrigerant between an outdoor unit and ducted indoor unit(s).

With VRF technology, up to 50 indoor units can be connected to a single outdoor unit.

What is the difference between VRF & HVRF?

VRF (Variable Refrigerant Flow) systems use refrigerant throughout the entire network for heating and cooling. HVRF (Hybrid VRF) combines this technology with water-based distribution: refrigerant runs only between the outdoor unit and a Hybrid Branch Controller, while water connects to the indoor units. This design reduces refrigerant in occupied spaces, improves safety, and makes future upgrades easier—ideal for projects focused on decarbonisation and compliance.
