4kW QUHZ CO2 units

8.5 Ultra Quiet Ecodan

The Challenge

A Williams Homes new build development based in Powys, Wales needed to provide renewable heating systems for the residents of Mid Wales Housing Association, now known as Barcud. The Housing Association needed to ensure it’s residents were provided with affordable warmth and hot water, whilst also reducing the carbon footprint of their housing stock.

The Requirements

The key objectives for the housing association for these off the gas grid properties was to ensure that their residents were provided with an eco-friendly, cost efficient technology to provide both heating and hot water.  The brief was that any solution used should be easy to use, unobtrusive and quiet.

The Solution

2 types of Ecodan air source heat pumps were used which depended on the size and heating load of the home.

Firstly the Ecodan QUHZ heat pump system which uses CO2 as a refrigerant.  The QUHZ delivers water at 70°C to a packaged 200 litre thermal store, so that residents can receive heating and instantaneous hot water efficiently and cost effectively.

Secondly the multi award winning Ultra Quiet 8.5kW Ecodan were installed outside the larger properties, again providing heating and hot water efficiently and cost effectively to the residents.
